Rules and Ranks

Our General Rules & Guidelines

Fun and Silliness over XP and Loot: Though our guild allows all to play as they wish and level as fast as they want, we encourage guild members to engage in fun activities and witty conversation. Most of members are not driven by being the highest level or gathering the most wealth.

Never Ignore a Call for Help: Try to assist any who ask for assistance if possible, whether they are in the SBA or not. We pride ourselves on our friendly reputation, (many other guild and individuals have commented on our helpful attitude). This may mean helping with casting buffs, or loaning small items (in no way do we wish you to be taken advantage of … never give valuable items to a stranger! ).

Respect all those who Roleplay: If a player is roleplaying you must treat them as their character. This mean speaking to them as if they are their race or class and not using any real world slang or references.

Ranks

General

The General of the SBA is the rank reserved for our guild leader (sucker!).    The General, in general, is the only person in the guild who has access to all the shiny widgets and guild controls.  This honorable (?) position has been held by several members of the SBA since our founding, and is currently held by Roogs – a long standing Shorty from back in the EQ days.

Have questions, suggestions, rants?   Talk to someone else!   (Just kidding!) (No, really!)

Our past Generals have included :

  • Bobbins (halfing cleric, lover of pie, EQ Mac)
  • Dita (Girly-girl, golden kitty, or evil genius? No-one knows for sure…)
  • Asberdies (melter of faces, conjurer of streusel, porter to distant lands)
  • Roogs (Dwarven Hunter, tamer of rare beasts – most likely logged in as WereRoogs).

Banker

The Banker is a special rank entrusted to Shorties for keeping the Guild Vault organized.     This rank requires the Blizzard Authenticator, and is the only guild rank besides The General who has unlimited access to the Guild Vault, for the purpose of sorting, cleaning out old or low level stuff, and keeping the tabs tidy and up-to-date.

Veteran

Veteran is another special rank in the Shortbread Army.   As a guild, we have a proud (and bizarre) history.   The guild began way back in 2003 on a Mac only EverQuest server, started by a bunch of halflings who demanded baked goods from any “tall” people who wanted to join our silly ranks.

When we collectively made the jump from EQMac to World of WarCraft in 2004 many of our original Shorties came with us.   We honor these members my dubbing them the Veterans of the ShortBread Army.

This rank is to be considered (for all intents and purposes) the same as Captain, and is rarely bestowed on anyone these days unless one of our long lost EQMac friends finds us here and rejoins the silliness.

Don’t forget that Veterans are Captains too!

Captain

These folks are in charge of the guild.   That’s all there is to it.

The Captains of the Shortbread Army participate (well, sort of) in making decisions about guild policies, promotions, demotions, and well… I guess that’s about it.   We tend to keep things pretty low-key around here.

If you have questions, suggestions, rants or need something sorted out – these are the folks who will set you straight.

You will often find the Captains of the SBA organizing guild dungeon runs (and maybe even guild raids).

These are the folks to look to for guidance and advice in all Shortbread related areas.

If you are looking to be promoted about your current rank, these are the folks to bribe.   No promises though.

Captains are also in charge of awarding all the uber-loot from all of the 25-man guild Cata raids that we run on a nightly basis.

Haha!  Fooled you!   If you’re looking for free end-game raid loot on a nightly basis you may have come to the wrong guild.

  • Captains in the Shortbread Army are bestowed the following Guild privileges
  • Access to the guild vault (10 stacks per tab, daily)
  • Guild bank repairs / gold withdraws (300g daily)
  • Ability to induct new members
  • Ability to promote, demote, and remove members
  • Membership to the private SBA forum
  • Don’t forget that Veterans are Captains too!

Officer

Not to be taken lightly, the rank of Officer in the Shortbread Army is bestowed to those Shorties who we have come to know and trust with the ability to bring members into our ranks.    These members have been with the SBA for the long-run, and we’re counting on them to keep an eye out for new recruits!

Officers have access to the Office Chat channel and the following Guild privileges:

  • Access to the guild vault (10 stacks per tab, daily)
  • Guild bank repairs / gold withdraw (300g daily)
  • Ability to induct new members
  • Membership to the private SBA forum

Private

Welcome aboard! Yar! When you officially join the SBA you are a Private. It’s your job to follow the guild rules as best you can (and try not to spam the guild channel too much). Even though you are ‘just a member’ please remember that you carry the guild tag, and your conduct, zone shouts, and banter in the trade channel will be seen by the rest of Aggramar and associated with us.

You will get the benefit of being among some of the nicest and most helpful people you could ever meet on the server, and have access to the Guild Bank for some gear, trade skill items, and random useful stuff  to help you along the way.

NOTE : Don’t expect the vault to outfit you head to toe in level 359 epic armor.   Most the vault holds items that have  been put there to HELP you level, not twink you.   Feel free to grab a free guild tabard, some bags, and as much free stat-food as you can eat!   Oh, and help yourself to the cookies!

Privates in the SBA (Ha! Privates!) have the following Guild privileges:

  • Access to the guild vault (2 stacks per tab, daily)
  • Guild bank repairs (200g daily) – Please use this!! It helps us towards a guild achieve!
  • Membership to the private SBA forum

Recruit

Hello! We hope you like our friendly group. You are now on official “try out” status for the next couple of weeks. You must show yourself to be of good shorty material to become an offical member with the status of “private”.

This will mean being friendly, engaging in conversation, and basically being an addition to the guild. We are a guild of quaility first, not quantity. In addition to showing yourself to be socially compatible, you must also gain the positive attention of current shorties. New initiates will have their name submitted to the promotions area of the forum where your deeds can be posted.

If you don’t feel that you are a good fit for us, you may deguild with no hard feelings. However, it would be nice for you to drop Roogs or one of the captains an in-game mail to let us know know why you made your decision.   We hope you are happy here!

Youngling

We don’t hide the fact that we are a family-friendly, social guild.   Many of our members in good standing have kids, nephews, nieces, or neighborhood rug-rats that we sometimes let play on our accounts.    Having these characters as members of the guild ensures that they will get help when they need it, have safe people to talk to, and give them a generally positive experience.

Giving these guild members limited access to the guild vault, and very limited permissions as guild members helps to keep them out of trouble, and prevents them from hosing anything major up for the characters who’s account they may be playing on.

The few Younglings in the guild play very rarely, but we would ask that if you notice a Youngling online to please keep the banter in guild chat to a G-rating.

Thanks!

A note about ranks & alts

As a general rule, when one of your characters achieves a promotion or is assigned a new rank in the ShortBread Army we assign that same rank to ALL of the alts you have guilded with us.   Exceptions are made (as noted above) for Bankers, Younglings, and of course The General, who there can only be one of.   Although the SBA has over 175 members in our ranks, we are mostly made of about 40 real people.

Once you’ve joined the SBA, if you bring your alts into the guild we ask that you put the name of your “main” character (or the character we all know you primarily as) in the “Note” section of your character description in the guild roster.   That makes it easier for us (and for you) to tell who is who.   It also helps makes sense of why everyone is referring to Chulpacabra as Jeathy in guild chat.

The Shortbread Army does not require that all of your characters be members of our guild.   We welcome alts.  If your main is in a hard-core raiding guild and you’re jus looking to play casually and enjoy witty banter, we’d love to have you!   We only ask that if you do participate in another guild that you let either The General or one of the Captains know.
